Day 40—Tuffed

Tuffed = feeling so full after a big meal

Like the one we had yesterday for Easter. We had ham, fried potatoes, vegetables, pineapple stuffing, endive with hot bacon dressing, deviled eggs. YUM!!

Well, that's the last Boligism. Thanks for playing! If I come across one in the future, I'll add it to the list.

Bye!

Day 39—Rong and Rushous

Rong and Rushous = long and luscious

Victoria is always saying her hair is getting "rong and rushous". She had very long hair in 9th grade, cut it really short, and is now trying to grow it back out. I don't think she wants it THIS long, but you get the idea.

One more Boligism to go!

Day 38—Fake Reach

Fake Reach = having to reach for Pug, then he jerks back and leaps on the couch

You have to do this EVERY TIME he wants on the couch. He'll stand next to it, mumph for a while, you'll reach out your hands, say "fake reach" maybe once or twice, he'll either jump back, circle around, get a running start and jump up, or he'll just jump up. Sometimes you don't even have to reach out, just saying "fake reach" will get him up. He's odd.

Day 37—King of the Pillies

King of the Pillies = Pug on top of as many pillows as he can get on

Pug loves to sit on pillows. If I had this many pillows in a pile on the couch, he'd be in pug heaven. Sometimes I'll fold up the blankets on the couch, and it makes a small pile, he'll be the first one to climb up on them. Then we call him King of the Pillies. He's happy as a clam.

Day 36—Gralala

Gralala = Granola

Greek yogurt topped with granola is one of my fav snacks!

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Day 35—Fairfield shortcut

Fairfield shortcut = what you think is the way back but not really

I tend to get lost from time to time in the car. Then I think I know the way back to where I was going, so I'd turn this way or that, and the next thing I know, I'm totally lost. So it's a joke in my family, if I'm taking the "Fairfield shortcut" I "think" this is the way, but really I have NO idea where I am or how to find my way back. But that won't happen now that I have a GPS!

Day 34—Piddle

Piddle = dog speak for pee

Usually in our house, it's followed by puddle. Which is what Lucy leaves every time we leave her alone. :(

Day 33—Air Shiditiner

Air Shiditiner = air conditioner

Mine will be running from March till October-ish.

Saturday, April 9, 2011

Day 32—Robble Scrobble

Robble Scrobble = playful wrestling or playing

Lucy and Bodie do this all the time. Never mean, no one ever gets hurt. Pug just tries to stay out of their way.

Friday, April 8, 2011

Day 31—Schminsky

Schminsky = dinner

The dogs know what the word "dinner" means, and will go crazy nuts if they hear it, so we have to use code to talk about dinner. Sometimes it's referred to as dinsky schminsky, mostly just schminsky. They also know what "feed the dogs" means, so we have to say "f the d's".

Day 29—Finky Steet

White Beater = Wife Beater

"I bought a new beater, just like my white beater, only blue." Love you Kate!!

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Day 21—Scruns

Scruns = underwear

Not even sure how long we've been calling underwear scruns. Forever. And FYI: those are NOT my scruns in the pic!

Monday, March 28, 2011

Day 20—J Bone

J Bone = jealous

Our French Bulldog, Lucy, is EXTREMELY jealous of her brothers' stuff. If they are getting petted, she butts her head to get petted too. If they are playing with a toy, THAT'S the toy she wants. If they get any kind of attention at all, she's jealous.

Saturday, March 26, 2011

Day 18—Dee-e-e-Dowad's

Dee-e-e-Dowad's = McDonald's

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Schmagoo = smells good

Boopie used to say this when she was little. Aw!!

Day 15—Spididee

Spididee = spider

Ick. When I was googling an image to put on this post, I couldn't even bare to look at the real pictures of spiders, I hate them so much. So I had to post a cartoon happy face one.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Day 14—Scoots/sick poo

Scoots/sick poo = diarrhea

Gross, I know.

But that's what we've always called "it". Sorry!

Monday, March 21, 2011

Day 13—Goopy Crap

Goopy Crap = the stuff I put in my hair.

Technically, it's the Got2B spiking glue, but Alexandra calls it goopy crap. So that's what I put on the grocery list when I'm low.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Day 12—Gahmadeese

Gahmadeese = go get me a ball (or toy)

When Bodie looks like he wants to play keep away with one of his toys, if we say "gahmadeese" to him, he'll usually run away and bring back a ball or toy. Then we'll reach for it, and he'll pull it away and run. He loves for you to fake reach for it, or even just put your hand on it, he'll play growl then run. He's a lot of fun to play with.

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Day 11—Chink Chow

Chink Chow = Chinese food

I know this is SO not politically correct, and I apologize in advance if I offend any Asians reading this blog. But seriously, I have like 6 followers, and none of them are Asian, so I think I'm ok. This is something we've always said for Chinese food. Pete and I must have started it way back in the day, and it stuck.

Sorry!!!

Friday, March 18, 2011

Day 10—Screamin E

Screamin E = your car is in desperate need of gas

We use this term when we REALLY need gas, your tank is not just empty, it's running on fumes.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Day 9—Piachio

Pi-ach'-i-o = Pistachio

This is the way Katie has always pronounced pistachio. Silly girl.

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Day 8—Moe untsee

Moe untsee = call to the dogs that it's time for bed

This came from when we had Hunter, our Golden Retriever (that's him in the pic). We used to say "Come on Hunter" when we wanted him to go outside one last time before going up to bed. It's morphed into moe untsee (untsee=Hunter). Hunter's been gone since 2007, but we still use this as a "time for bed" call.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Day 7—People Bones

People Bones = peanut butter, dry milk and honey
When Alexandra was in preschool (19 years ago) one day the snack was people bones. They must have been learning about dogs or something. You put a blop (yes that's the exact measurement) of peanut butter, a couple of spoonfuls of dry milk and a drizzle of honey together and mix. Add enough dry milk to the mixture to create the consistency of play-doh. The kids could make shapes with it, bones in this case, then when they were done playing with it, they could eat their creations. My kids make this to this day, every once in a while. Try it!

Monday, March 14, 2011

Day 6—Rassafrassa

Rassafrassa = swearing under your breath

It's kind of like grumbling, but unintelligibly. The image is Muttley, from the cartoon Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines. He would grumble under his breath and it sounded like rassafrassa.

Sunday, March 13, 2011

To peep. To look [with your eyes]. Therefore, the things you use to correct your vision are called peeps.

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Day 4—Tush

Tush = sound of car hitting a puddle and splashing either a person or something else

It's more of a sound effect but we do use it in conversation. "I think one time Victoria was driving her truck after a rain and she tushed some poor guy walking on the sidewalk."

Friday, March 11, 2011

Day 3—Noona Noona

Noona Noona = Tuna Noodle Casserole

This is appropriate for the first Friday in Lent. My husband HATES noona noona. Loathes it in fact. We can only make it when he's out of town. The girls and I love it.

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Day 2—mips

Mips = Carmex lip baum

The girls must have not been able to say "lips" so they started calling it mips.

We have a couple variations on this: squeezy mips, mips on a stick, tub o' mips. Depends on the different kinds they sell. But it's always Carmex. And NOT the cherry flavor. Yuck.

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Day 1—Shake Shake

Shake Shake = Kraft Parmesan Cheese

You know, the stuff you "shake" on spaghetti?

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

40 days of Boligisms

Apparently, my family has some unique ways of saying ordinary things. Enough of them, in fact, that people outside of my family has commented on them (yes I'm looking at you Tara). I was asked to make a list of them, so I thought for Lent I'd start a blog and list one a day and their meanings and background, if possible. We're weirdos I know. So tomorrow I'll start!
